Action Alert – Annual Account Verification Needed
Hello HOURCAR members,
Due to a recent change in requirements by our car insurance policies, we need you take action to validate and affirm your membership status. These changes now require us to conduct an annual re-check of our members’ Motor Vehicle Records to ensure that they still meet our Membership Qualifications.
To remain an active member, please fill out this form which includes a $10 processing fee to have your record re-run. You will be asked to enter a credit card that will be charged immediately on form submission. The Annual Account Verification form is located here.
Out-of-State Licenses: If your license is not from Minnesota, there will be an additional $5 fee in re-checking your record.
International Licenses: If your license is not from the United States, in addition to filling out the form and paying a processing fee, you are required to obtain your driving record and email the report to info@hourcar.org.
Provided your driving record meets our Membership Qualifications, your membership will stay active without any interruption! If your record shows that you no longer meet these qualifications, your account will be closed until you are able to meet our requirements.
If we do not receive a form response and payment for Annual Account Verification by October 28th, your account will be deactivated until we are able to update your records. See our FAQ for other questions about this process.
Providing convenient, equitable, and sustainable multimodal transportation options remains our mission. We appreciate your understanding as we facilitate these new requirements.
Thank you for being an HOURCAR member!

FAQ
This is frustrating! Why do we have to do this?
We agree. It is frustrating. But our insurance has added a new requirement that we annually verify that members meet our Membership Qualifications. Anyone who has not been re-checked will not be covered by our insurance, which is not a risk that we can take on as a business.
Will we have to pay this every year?
HOURCAR will need to re-check records every year, but don’t yet know what the process will look like. This year, we have a short amount of time to complete the request and create a new process, so we have shared some of the costs of staff time and record request fees with you. With more prep time, we may be able to reduce the cost to members.
If I have to pay a fee to get my driving record, can I get reimbursement?
HOURCAR will pull your driving record directly for Minnesota and most US states (except weirdly Pennsylvania). In these cases, you only pay the processing fee on the form.
For international licenses (and weirdly Pennsylvania licenses), we offer a reduced $5 processing fee (instead of the $15 out-of-state fee) to help offset the cost of obtaining your own record. We cannot reimburse any additional costs beyond this fee discount.
I applied for membership and paid the registration fee within the past year. Why do I have to pay this again?
Our requirements to store these records have changed with our new insurance since you applied. We need to re-run records for anyone who applied before September 1st, 2026, to be sure that we have the documentation needed to prove that you are covered by our insurance.
You may also be receiving this message as someone with an International License who applied after Sept 1st, 2026. We have updated our processes for some countries since you applied to require extra documentation to meet our insurance requirements.
What if I don’t meet the requirements anymore?
If you no longer meet the Membership Qualifications, your account will be closed until you are able to meet the requirements again.
The processing fee will not be refunded if you don’t meet the requirements. If you know that you no longer meet requirements, you can either let us know for immediate account closure or not fill out the form for deactivation on October 28th.
Can I return to membership if my account has been closed for not meeting requirements?
Once you’re able to meet the member requirements again, we can reactivate your account or you can reapply. If we confirm that you meet the member requirements at that time, you will be allowed to rejoin.
I am unable to get a document from my country that meets the requirements. What do I do?
Unfortunately, we need documentation of driving records from you annually. If your country doesn’t provide this record, we are not able to keep your account active after October 28th. This is a function of our insurance rules.
I don’t drive that frequently! Do I still need to do this?
To remain able to drive as a member, we need to re-check your driving record. We recommend doing this now to avoid any delays in re-activating your account at a later date.
If you do not complete this form, your account will be deactivated on October 28th . When you are ready to drive again, you will need to pay the processing fee at that time and plan for 2-4 business days before reactivation of your account while we check your record.
Why are you asking for donations when we have to pay a fee?
We have received feedback from many people who are looking to support HOURCAR with donations! This form is an easy way to make that happen for those who have the funds to give a little extra.
If you are not in a spot to donate, your membership and carshare use is all we ask. Your ability to access a vehicle is why we do this work, and we thank you for being a member!
What company is running the driving record check?
The driving record checks will be completed either through Minnesota’s e-Services for Business or through Checkr. We use Checkr to run MVR checks on new applications as well.
How do you store and save our data?
We take our responsibility of storing your personal information very seriously. For the most detailed info, check out our Privacy Policy, which hopefully will answer your question.
